Eliminate HPC I/O Bottlenecks in CFD Applications

News Panasas, an industry leader in parallel file systems and parallel storage, provides technology to maximize utlization of HPC clusters by removing CFD application I/O bottlenecks between the compute infrastructure and the storage system.

Application AEG Electric Tools GmbH, one of the market-leading manufacturers of heavy-duty portable electric power tools for professionals, uses Flomerics EFD.Lab fluid flow and heat transfer simulation software for optimizing airflow and cooling effects in their power tools.

"On a recent project we used EFD.Lab and we were able to get the engine running 20% cooler, and also we obtained this improvement much faster than before," said Markus Wörner, design engineer at AEG.

The glass industry annually produces 21 million tons of consumer goods valued at $28 billion. Energy costs for this volume of goods account for approximately 15 percent of production costs. Theoretically, glassmaking requires about 2.2 million BTUs of energy per ton of glass, but usually more than twice that amount is actually used due to various system losses.

New Software: OpenCFD Release OpenFOAM V1.5

News OpenCFD are pleased to announce a major, new release of version 1.5 of their OpenFOAM open source CFD toolbox.

Version 1.5 contains improvements for simpler setup, running and post-processing of OpenFOAM cases, including new command line execution and argument features, dictionary directives and macro substitution and improvements to parallel scaling on larger number of processors.
