Application: Simulation of Human Flight in Wingsuits

Application Flomerics and Matchstick Productions have released a short video which for the first time reveals the complex 3D airflow around a wingsuit that enables human beings to glide through the air like a bird.

The video combines actual footage of human flight in wingsuits with airflow simulations using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) software.

Software Cradle and WSU Open Center for High Performance Computing

News On April 11, 2008, Software Cradle Co. Ltd. headquartered in Osaka, Japan and the Department of Mechanical and Materials Engineering at Wright State University (WSU) in Dayton, OH signed a collaboration agreement marking the official opening of the Center for High Performance Computing at the WSU Joshi Research Center.

The partnership will focus on fluid/thermal simulation and applications research and will provide students and participating engineers the opportunity to solve real world design problems using Software Cradle’s suite of state-of-the-art Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) software products.

Top 3 CFD Pains

News Optimal LLC has received a strong response to its CFD Pain Survey that inquires about significant pain or bottlenecks associated with CFD applications.

The current top three CFD pains include: 1) Software expense (71% respondents indicating intense or searing pain); 2) Mesh generation (67%); and 3) Geometry creation/clean-up (65%).
