NAFEMS, The International Association for the Engineering Analysis Community, has announced the preliminary agenda for its 11th International Congress to be held in Vancouver, Canada, on May 22nd-25th, 2007. With as many as four parallel sessions running over three days, the Congress is sure to provide great benefit to all those involved in simulation, FEA, CFD, MBS and CAD/CAM.
The Congress will bring together world leading industrial practitioners, consultancies, academic researchers and software developers with a common interest in engineering analysis. ABAQUS/SIMULA are Principal Sponsors of the 2007 Congress, and the AIAA are co-sponsors.

John W. Backus, who assembled and led the IBM team that created Fortran, the first widely used programming language, which helped open the door to modern computing, died on Saturday at his home in Ashland, Ore. He was 82.
Fortran, released in 1957, was "the turning point" in computer software, much as the microprocessor was a giant step forward in hardware, according to J.A.N. Lee, a leading computer historian.
