Announcements The SAE 2007 Aircraft & Engine Icing International Conference provides a forum for the aerospace and aviation communities to meet and discuss the worldwide concern for flight safety of operating in icing conditions. The conference will be held September 24-27, 2007 in Seville, Spain.

Papers will deal with the latest advances in the fields of simulation, protection, detection, training and regulatory practices for the safe operation of aircraft at takeoff and in-flight. News The Desktop Engineering article CFD's Expanding Role describes how improvements in several key areas has lead to new and old users embracing CFD in new applications.
Paul Bemis, Fluent’s vice president of product management, offers this straightforward perspectives. “In the past, CFD was used by people who had no choice, working on jets, rockets, and overheated car engines,” he says. “They used CFD primarily as a forensic tool to understand failure. Now, with better predictability (results), people use CFD to help with the design decision process, hoping to optimize at the beginning.”

New Software: Next-Generation CFD Meshing Software Released for Beta Testing

Grid Generation Pointwise has released its next-generation CFD meshing software for beta testing. The eponymous Pointwise software is the result of over 20,000 hours of development and represents the future of reliable CFD meshing.

"Our Gridgen software has served engineers well over the last 22 years and it was time to repackage the core technologies within a new user interface and user environment" said John Chawner, Pointwise's president.

News COMSOL has introduced version 3.3a of its leading multiphysics simulation environment. The entire product family, including the COMSOL Script™ suite of scientific computing software, now runs on Microsoft’s Vista operating system as well as on Intel-based Macs.

A new Material Library simplifies the accurate specification of properties for more than 2500 materials. A CHEMKIN® file-import facility makes it possible to read data in a format standard in the chemical industry for gas-phase reactions, combustion, and atmospheric chemistry.

Announcements SoftInWay, an innovator in advanced turbomachinery design software, today announced that it will be conducting a course on the use of its AxSTREAM™ Suite of Multidisciplinary Design Optimization software on May 11-12, 2007.

The course is being conducted in conjunction with the ASME/IGTI Turbo-Expo Conference and Exhibition in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. The conference occurs May 14-17.
