News Fico, member of the Besi Group, used engineering fluid dynamics analysis software EFD.Pro to obtain an amazing 40x performance enhancement in their new laser cutting system. The company successfully optimized airflow in their new equipment to deal with the dust created as a result of the cutting process. As a result, system maintenance intervals increased from 15 minutes to 11 hours in record time.

"In the past this process would have consisted of trial and error and would certainly have taken a lot longer than 90 days," explained Peter Venema, engineer. "When we proved that we had a reliable model, we were able to speed up the process significantly."

News The International Engineering Consortium (IEC) has announced that FLO/PCB thermal design software from Flomerics is one of only three finalists in the PCB Design Tools category of their prestigious 2007 DesignVision Awards. Finalists were chosen from among a record number of competing products by a panel of judges selected from DesignCon’s Technical Program Committee.

"We are delighted that the IEC has recognized FLO/PCB software as one of the top three PCB design tools in 2007," said Dr. Mike Reynell, Director of Marketing for Flomerics. "FLO/PCB dramatically streamlines the PCB design process by providing thermal simulations at a very early phase before routing and other design details are established."

Application: Sandia National Laboratories Uses EnSight to Test the Boundaries of Nanowires
Posted Wed January 24, 2007 @04:18PM

Post Processing While nanowires are relatively new in the world of science, their unique mechanical, electrical, and optical properties make great research candidates. Researchers such as Jonathan Zimmerman, a Principal Member of Technical Staff at Sandia National Laboratories, are learning more about the inherent potential of these miniature wires.

Nanowires are very tiny wires with dimensions of the order of a nanometer (10^-9 meters). They are composed of metals such as silver, gold, or iron, or semiconductors such as silicon, zinc oxide, and germanium. Nanowires are not found in nature, so to perform research on them, they must first be fabricated in the lab.

Grid Generation In the ever changing automotive marketplace, manufacturers strive to produce differentiated and attractive products. To do this, they must shorten their development cycle. This challenge is met by the use of numerical tools such as computational fluid dynamics.

Tier1 suppliers like Valeo strongly invest in the use of multi-physics simulation software in order to improve both their expertise and their ability to design new parts in a very short timeframe. The constant improvements of fan systems over the years to become more compact, more efficient and less noisy are a clear evidence of the relevance of simulation based design. In part, these results have been achieved with the help of commercial grid generation software like Gridgen.
