Announcements The Centre for Development of Advanced Computing will host a Workshop and Training Programme on Computational Fluid Dynamics in Pune, India on December 11-15, 2006.

The event is designed to foster the usage and generate expertise in the Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) area. The programme will cover theoretical and practical aspect of CFD. It also includes hands on sessions using PHOENICS, a general purpose CFD software developed by CHAM, UK.

Application: Visualizations Take Researchers Inside the Brain

Application At Rice University in Houston, Texas, members of the Team for Advanced Flow Simulation and Modeling (T*AFSM) are working with team members from other institutions to unlock mysteries of the circulatory system found within the human brain.

The group consists of researchers from Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science at Rice University, Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, and Bethel University in Minnesota. Their computational resources include the computer modeling methods and programs developed by the T*AFSM and a Cray XD1 supercomputer at Rice. The interdisciplinary team is using computational fluid mechanics and fluid-structure interaction to model cerebral arteries, with the goal of a better understanding—and ultimately, better diagnoses and prognoses—of cerebral aneurysms.

Application: ANSYS Software Simulates Historic European Flight

Application ANSYS, Inc., a global innovator of simulation software and technologies designed to optimize product development processes, today announced that its software has been used to demonstrate the air-worthiness of the aircraft that Alberto Santos-Dumont piloted during the first public flight of a heavier-than-air machine in Europe a century ago. A team of Brazilian students recently used ANSYS ICEM CFD and ANSYS CFX software to analyze and understand airflow around the plane's surface.

Interview with Fluent's VP of Marketing

ANSYS FLUENT MCAD Online spoke with Paul Bemis, vice president of marketing for Fluent, about the Ansys merger, integrated FEA/CFD, CAD integration and the company’s relationship with Autodesk.

Regarding integration of FEA and CFD, Mr. Bemis said "The plan is to develop and deliver an integrated software platform that will enable design engineers and analysts to perform comprehensive simulations of designs. This approach will encompass the ability to model multiple physical phenomena such as fluid structure, electromagnetics, thermal stress, acoustics, and much more."

New Software: ANSYS to Support 64-bit Windows Compute Cluster Server

ANSYS ANSYS, Inc., a global innovator of simulation software and technologies designed to optimize product development processes, today announced that the upcoming releases of its multiphysics simulation software — ANSYS® 11.0 and FLUENT® 6.3 — will include support for Microsoft Windows Compute Cluster Server 2003.

Enabling high-performance computing (HPC) on the Microsoft Windows platform, the new solution helps customers deploy computer-aided engineering (CAE) at a higher level than in the past, decreasing the time required for simulations and increasing the accuracy of results.
