New Software: Fluent Introduces CoolSim Data Center Environment Thermal Audit Solution
Posted Wed January 25, 2006 @04:01PM

ANSYS FLUENT Fluent Inc., world leader in computational fluid dynamics (CFD) software and services, has announced the company's new solution for data center cooling, CoolSim.

CoolSim is designed to help dramatically reduce the risk of thermal-related equipment failures by enabling data center facility owners, engineers and designers to accurately simulate air flow and temperatures for various equipment racks throughout the entire data center. With CoolSim thermal audits of a data center, planners and operations managers can quickly identify and correct potential thermal problems before they can negatively impact a company's equipment, data or business operations. Moreover, CoolSim helps companies better manage the costly burden of cooling of data centers.

Using Computational Fluid Dynamics
Posted Tue January 24, 2006 @10:10AM
Print version Email story Tweet story
News The 1992 text Using Computational Fluid Dynamics by Dr. Christopher Shaw is an attempt to put the process of CFD simulation into a simple and concise format, so that it can be used by students or practising engineers to assist in their understanding of the technology of CFD, regardless of the particular software package they might be using.

Once someone is familiar with the material contained in the book, they should be able to produce simulations of fluid flow situations using a suitable CFD package or be able to talk confidently with those who produce such simulations.

Now, the author of the book is making electronic copies of Using Computational Fluid Dynamics available for free via his website.

Application: Calgreg and Coolit Build Customer Loyalty
Posted Mon January 23, 2006 @10:54AM
Print version Email story Tweet story
Application Aided by Coolit, Calgreg is saving its customers money and building the kind of customer relations that result in repeat business from satisfied buyers. The heat sink manufacturer, who services a spectrum of industries, creates custom designs that are frequently better than what the customer asks for.

When a computer chip company developed a thermal solution for its new server chip, the company only expected the vendor to fabricate the design. The company was pleasantly surprised when Calgreg told them it could create a custom heat sink that would be better and less expensive than the in-house design.
