Need Help with Windows Memory Limitation

Help Desk ddunava writes "Am using CFX. Have 3 Gb RAM. Operating system is Windows XP. Have booted in safe mode with networking enabled. Am only able to obtain 1275 Mb of memory. Solver is requesting about 1.4 Gb of memory and fails. My understanding from a couple different sources is available memory should be somewhere between 1400 and 1900 Mb in safe mode. Need assistance ASAP, thanks."

Linux: A Revolution in Scientific and Technical Computing

News SYS-Con India is running an article on the growth of Linux clusters in scientific and technical computing, the technical hurdles involved, and the potential cost savings.
Many researchers and engineers have made Linux their operating environment of choice due to its wide familiarity, broad support, and ease of use for both users and administrators. Today Linux clusters are the fastest-growing type of HPC system. Clusters represented a third of the technical server market in 2004 and half the market by the first quarter of 2005. And, between 2002 and 2004, revenue from Linux-based systems more than quadrupled. In addition, key applications in many fields - including most independent software vendor (ISV) applications such as computational fluid dynamics codes used for computer-assisted engineering (CAE) - are now certified for Linux and many were even designed to run specifically on Linux.

Application: Automated Optimization with CFD Is Both Feasible and Practical

Automated optimization in the turbomachinery design process has long been an objective of many designers and a topic of study by several companies. Concepts NREC first responded to the need for such a practical system in 1997 when the company received funding from NASA to integrate iSIGHT software from Engineous Software into it's own Agile Engineering Design System®.

This early work focused on using optimization algorithms to manipulate the geometries of centrifugal pumps, fans, and compressors, with the analysis of each candidate design being conducted using a rapid streamline curvature (SLC) solver. [1]

News ALGOR, Inc., a leading provider of design, analysis and simulation software, announced the immediate availability of FEMPRO, which has been designed to compete with Femap in the arena of pre- and post-processing for NASTRAN-compatible and other finite element analysis (FEA) software.

"FEMPRO is a modern, easy-to-use and complete system with full finite element modeling, results evaluation and presentation capabilities. Using FEMPRO, users build FEA models which can be processed by a variety of solvers for the purpose of performing mechanical simulation, which is often called virtual prototyping," said Bob Williams, ALGOR Product Manager.

CD-adapco An es-ice training course will be held at our Plymouth Office from January 23-27, 2006 for new users. If you are a new user of es-ice or a past user requiring a refresher course to improve your experience, then this course will be the correct level for you. The only prerequisite is that you should have a good working knowledge of pro-STAR and STAR-CD V3.2X, including transient simulations.

es-ice (Expert System Internal Combustion Engines) is a meshing and analysis tool developed and used by CD-adapco to simplify the meshing and analysis setup for transient in-cylinder flow and combustion calculations for reciprocating engines.

Announcements Advanced Design Technology (ADT), the global leader in advanced turbomachinery design codes are pleased to announce a two day aero/hydro-dynamic design training workshop for incompressible flow turbomachinery applications, such as Pumps and Fans. The workshop will be held in London on 3-4 April 2006.

ADT will introduce the inverse design process and compare the benefits over conventional design methods. The workshop will enable the participants to apply the unique features of TURBOdesign-1 3D inverse design code, coupled with TURBOcfd in the Aerodynamic and Hydrodynamic design of their own specific blade row under the supervision of ADT’s experienced design staff.
