New Software: CFturbo Version 5 Released

News A new version of CFturbo has been released in November 2005. CFturbo V5 is an affordable, easy-to-use turbomachinery design software for high-quality radial and mixed-flow pumps and fans including volutes.

The software has interfaces to all relevant commercial CAD-systems and meshing software packages in order to streamline the turbomachinery design and recomputation process.

HP to Offer Pay-Per-Use CFD Service

News HP has unveiled utility computing services that enable multiple customers to access HP's dedicated, publicly available computing resources at variable prices.

By using HP Flexible Computing Services, companies can quickly acquire additional IT resources as needed. The cost-per-unit pricing is ideal for customers with compute-intensive jobs that can outstrip the capacity found even in very well-equipped IT environments.

Testing, CFD at Center of Shuttle Foam Ramp Debate

News NASA managers plan to meet next week to discuss whether to ship a shuttle external fuel tank to Florida in early February without so-called PAL ramp wind delectors in hopes wind tunnel tests and computer modeling will prove the ramps aren't needed to shield external pressurization lines and a cable tray from aerodynamic buffeting.

"The thing that I'm keenly interested in is the actual test data," LeRoy Cain, manager of launch processing at the Kennedy Space Center, said. "The CFD, it will either confirm or not confirm whatever the test data says is right. But that flow field is non intuitive. It's extremely complex."

Geomagic Blade extends Geomagic Qualify computer-aided inspection (CAI) software to provide special features that have been tested and verified by leading turbo-machinery companies such as GE Power Systems, Honeywell, Howmet, PCC Airfoils LLC, Pratt &. Whitney, Solar Turbines, Siemens and others.

Meshing API Released for Public Use

Grid Generation Pointwise announces the public release of UGC API V2, software and documentation for an application programming interface (API) for unstructured meshing software. Development of API V2 was recently completed for the U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) by a Pointwise-led team including Boeing, Lockheed Martin, and Basis Software.

The purpose of the API is relatively simple. By specifying how meshing technologies are to be implemented in software, meshing algorithms may easily be integrated into existing meshing applications if both conform to the API specification.

ANSYS FLUENT Fluent Inc., the world leader in computational fluid dynamics (CFD) software and services, is pleased to announce it has been presented with an award at the recent prestigious 18th Annual Supercomputing Show held in Seattle, Washington, USA.

Fluent Inc., in association with American Power Conversion (APC), AMD and Ferrari, swept the “Most Innovative Implementation of an HPC Application“ category in the opinion of both HPCwire Magazine readers and a panel of luminaries representing HPC Editors and industry magazines, for the recently opened Ferrari Data Center application implementation in Maranello, Italy. Fluent was the only CFD provider to receive an award.
