Meshing API Released for Public Use

Grid Generation Pointwise announces the public release of UGC API V2, software and documentation for an application programming interface (API) for unstructured meshing software. Development of API V2 was recently completed for the U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) by a Pointwise-led team including Boeing, Lockheed Martin, and Basis Software.

The purpose of the API is relatively simple. By specifying how meshing technologies are to be implemented in software, meshing algorithms may easily be integrated into existing meshing applications if both conform to the API specification.

Fluent Wins Readers' and Editors' Choice Awards

ANSYS FLUENT Fluent Inc., the world leader in computational fluid dynamics (CFD) software and services, is pleased to announce it has been presented with an award at the recent prestigious 18th Annual Supercomputing Show held in Seattle, Washington, USA.

Fluent Inc., in association with American Power Conversion (APC), AMD and Ferrari, swept the “Most Innovative Implementation of an HPC Application“ category in the opinion of both HPCwire Magazine readers and a panel of luminaries representing HPC Editors and industry magazines, for the recently opened Ferrari Data Center application implementation in Maranello, Italy. Fluent was the only CFD provider to receive an award.

Application: Coolit Eliminates Costly Redesigns

Application With the help of Coolit CFD software, ADVA AG Optical Networking is detecting potential thermal problems early in the development phase while engineers are still able to change cabinet and board designs. As a result, the company has shortened its development cycles and eliminated time-consuming and costly redesigns.

ADVA, the leading metro optical-networking provider in Europe, develops a series of fiber optic boards, opto-electronic boards and accompanying cabinets and shelves. The company had tested other thermal packages, but found them cumbersome. Using Coolit, the company can easily construct and run models and display the three-dimensional colored simulations that predict temperatures and airflows inside its cabinets.

STAR-CD Running on a Distributed Windows Cluster

CD-adapco In his Supercomputing 2005 keynote speech, Bill Gates described his vision of the future, in which he promised a supercomputer under every desk. In front of a standing room only crowd Gates unveiled the latest beta of Microsoft's Windows Compute Cluster Server 2003, saying "Technical computing is crucial to the many discoveries that impact our quality of life -- from making safer, more efficient cars and airplanes to addressing global health issues and environmental changes".

At the conference, CD-adapco demonstrated a preview version of STAR-CD running over a distributed Windows cluster using Microsoft MPI.

New Software: Advanced Design Technology Releases TURBOcfd

News Advanced Design Technology has released TURBOcfd a full CFD solver developed for incompressible turbomachinery flows such as through pumps and fans. TURBOcfd has been specifically developed in order to streamline the application of CFD in the blade design process.

In many general purpose CFD codes the mesh generation and problem set up can be quite time consuming which can affect the productivity of designers and increase design and development time. In order to overcome some of these problems, ADT has developed TURBOcfd to streamline the application of CFD in the turbomachinery blade design process.
