CD-adapco, the leading provider of CAD-embedded flow simulation solutions today announced their participation at the 2005 Paris Air Show, the leading international event for the aviation, aeronautics and space industries, taking place at Le Bourget Airport, France, from June 13 - 19, 2005.
The use of CFD in the aerospace community has evolved. No longer viewed as a replacement for wind tunnel experiment, CFD has gained a reputation as a powerful tool for creative design. However, CFD is increasingly required to earn the title of a responsive mainstream tool, providing information within the restrictive timescales of the design process. Previously CFD engineers were able spend months constructing a mesh for a complete aircraft simulation, however competitive pressure means that now the entire aircraft polar needs to be simulated in just a few days. In order to meet this challenge, aerospace companies are increasingly turning to commercial CFD solutions. One such solution is CD-adapco's newly released flagship code: STAR-CCM+.

Racing Fan Magazine
has posted a
story on the use of CFD in the design of a new Dodge car to compete for the NASCAR Winston Cup.
CFD has accelerated the whole design process. According to Jean-Michel Esclafer de La Rode, Dodge's chief CFD manager, "Drafting studies [that once] took a couple of weeks to simulate, we can do in a few days today."

CAD Server
has posted an article on the design of a new low-cost Unmanned Aerial Vehicle. The article mentions that the craft was designed extensively using CFD.
In the words of Daniele Camatti, CEO of ProS3 and designer of the Pro Observer: "CFD analyses performed with STAR-CCM+ were critical in determining if the initial airframe designs were good enough to ensure the required flight performance. With STAR-CCM+ we were able to estimate with great precision the position of the aircraft's aerodynamic center, to such an extent that, from the first test flight onwards, we have completely avoided crashes."
