Announcements CFD@Nottingham is delighted to invite applications for its EPSRC-supported Summer School in Industrial CFD [pdf].

The Summer School is in two parts, which can be taken separately:

  • Course 1 (June 20-24th): Foundation Course
  • Courses 2 (June 27-29th): Advanced Topic Day Courses (Turbulence, multiphase, combustion, CPI)

The Summer School is open to students, academics and professionals and we are already in receipt of applications from all backgrounds. There will be a numerus clausus of 30-35 participants and we will aim to have 2/3 lectures, 1/3 practicals and seminars. Braking News: STAR-CD helps Renault F1 Team to Second Consecutive Win

Application As Fernando Alonso clocked up the second consecutive victory for the Renault F1 Team, CD-adapco are proud to announce that, while the remainder of the grid use Computational Fluid Dynamics to speed their cars up, the Renault F1 Team has scorched to successive victories by using STAR-CD to slow their cars down.

In the extreme environments of both Malaysia and Australia, maintaining the brakes at the correct operating temperature was a critical part of the Renault F1's winning performance. For each race, the choice of cooling strategy was based upon months of fine-tuning through STAR-CD simulation at the Renault F1 Team’s Enstone headquarters, and represents the best compromise between effective cooling and the aerodynamic penalty for the car.

CFdesign CFdesign for Catia v5 will make its debut at the Catia Operators Exchange (COE) in Phoenix later this month. Recognized in industry as the preeminent Upfront CFD solution, CFdesign® will soon be available to Catia v5 customers as an integrated simulation tool that delivers full-functionality fluid flow and heat transfer simulation in an associative modeling environment using the native Catia v5 part models and assemblies.

Built from the ground up for design engineers and multi-tasking mechanical engineers, CFdesign is a dramatically different technology than Traditional CFD which requires highly specialized skill sets and dedicated usage.

Demonstrations of CFdesign v7 for Catia v5 will be given continuously at COE 2005.

Events: Fluent to Host Airflow Modelling Seminar for Data Centres
Posted Wed March 23, 2005 @05:39PM
Print version Email story Tweet story
ANSYS FLUENT Fluent Europe Ltd is to host a free lunchtime seminar for the data centre community. The event will take place at the headquarters of CIBSE (Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers) and offers invitees the opportunity to learn and discuss the latest airflow modelling techniques for optimising the thermal performance of data centre, computer and communication room facilities.

The seminar gives attendees the chance to learn how CFD technology can help to:

  • Identify the location of hot spots
  • Optimise cabinet layouts and floor grilles
  • Predict supply air short-circuiting to help in understanding overheating problems, critical cooling failure scenarios and to predict future cooling requirements.

To register for the event email events@fluent.co.uk. For more information contact Daniel Burton on 0114 281 8888 or email daniel@fluent.co.uk.
