New Software: Fluent’s Introduces Icechip™ Software for IC Thermal Design

News Fluent Inc., the world leader in computational fluid dynamics (CFD) software solutions, announces the release of Icechip™, a new package-level thermal validation software for IC package designers.

Icechip is an addition to the portfolio of design simulation and verification tools from the Icepak division of Fluent Inc. These include Icepak, the system-level thermal design tool; Iceboard, the PCB-level thermal verification software; and Icemax, the parasitics extraction tool for IC packages. Icechip is designed to increase the fidelity of package thermal design by modeling details of IC package structures and it significantly reduces the turnaround time for simulations of today’s increasingly complex IC packages. The tool is developed in collaboration with Harvard Thermal, the industry expert in the use of ECAD-based interfaces to thermal simulation software.

Reaction in a Bubble Column (Ozonizer)

Help Desk Ozone writes "Hello,

I want to study ozonization reactions and also the hydrodynamics using FLUENT. For the time being, we want to start with a simple phenomenon: Ozone-rich air will be bubbled into the water, and in the gas phase, the ozone will decompose to oxygen. Due to the increase in the number of moles, the volume of the bubbles will increase i.e. the bubble hold-up will go on increasing. We want to study how this effects the hydrodynamics.

Can you please suggest:

  1. Which reaction model I should choose? Volumetric reactions or particle surface reactions?
  2. This should be a multiphase model; but when I choose e.g. mixture model, the option for reaction does not come.
Please suggest a way out.

Application: CFD Streamlines Fan Design for New Marine Corps Amphibious Vehicle

Application By the end of the decade, the Marines will go into combat riding in General Dynamics Amphibious Systems’ new Expeditionary Fighting Vehicle (EFV) — a hybrid tank/boat designed to carry 17 combat equipped marines and a three-person crew over both land and sea at speeds of up to 30 miles per hour.

The contract to improve the environmental control system (ECS) that circulates and cools the cabin air was won by Fairchild Controls Corp. The company has been supplying sophisticated pneumatic, hydraulic and cooling systems to the aerospace and defense industries for 40 years.

The challenge was to improve airflow and minimize operational noise while remaining within a strict budget. In order to meet the deadline for delivering combat-ready EFVs in 2008, Fairchild Controls also needed to design, test and qualify the improved ECS in just 14 months.
