Help With Jet Analysis

Help Desk sats writes "Hi everybody,

I have a problem of simulating a flow through a circular orifice of 5mm diameter into a rectangular tank of dimension 2m by 1.5m by 1.5m using ANSYS-FLOTRAN in 2D. Can anyone tell me if this type of analysis is feasible in ANSYS-FLOTRAN and if so, how. Also the analysis will be a transient one to study the mixing of the jet from 0 to 4 secs."

Announcements Simulation, typically by finite element analysis (FEA) or computational fluid dynamics (CFD), is well established in a number of engineering companies for product and process development. Tasks such as optimising products and manufacturing processes by simulation are now well proven.

Nevertheless, a large number of companies are either not getting the best return from their investment in simulation technology, or are still considering investing in the technology.

NAFEMS Iberia is holding an awareness seminar titled Why to Use Simulation in your Development Process in Madrid, Spain on February 18th, 2005 to address these concerns.

This FREE event will bring together a wide range of engineers who are either currently using FEA or CFD, or who are considering introducing it into their organisation.

Multiphase Flow Solution Movie Posted

News The density functional theory has been extended to multiphase viscous flow with moving solid bodies. The solution takes into account phase transitions between the solid and liquid.

The movie "Induced straight motion of a solid body in a channel with viscous flow", which demonstrates the new feature, has been posted at the site.

Unit Conversion From 3D to 2D

I have this experimental tank (38 x 9 x 9 cm) that has a circular inlet of 1.2 cm diameter. In my experiments, I have the flow coming in at the rate of 60 mL/minute. Now the problem is - when I have to simulate this in CFD, I need the velocity of flow coming in.

So, from the equation Q = V.A, I can get the inlet velocity, but I am simulating this in 2D (38 x 9 cm), where the inlet is represented by a line 1.2 cm in length. What will be the inlet velocity for this case? Will it be the same as I get from the above equation for 3D simulation?"

Business: ANSYS Awarded General Services Administration Contract for CFX Products

News ANSYS, Inc., a global innovator of simulation software and technologies designed to optimize product development processes, has announced that it has been awarded a contract by the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) to sell its CFX® products and services, joining the other ANSYS® tools available to Federal customers through the GSA program.

"Our goal is to provide a cost-effective suite of engineering simulation solutions to government agencies," said Jim Cashman, president and CEO at ANSYS, Inc. "Now, with the addition of CFX being awarded a contract, we are able to provide our complete product suite, and better serve our federal customers and prospects."

I am a Graduate Student. I have an assignment to analyze the effectiveness of mixing two streams of air using Fluent. I don't know anything about Fluent and Gambit. Can anyone please give me a direction to proceed, tutorials, etc. to start off. Anything that can help me in modelling the problem and solving it in Fluent.
