Cadalyst Reviews CFDesign
Posted Fri December 10, 2004 @09:32AM
Print version Email story Tweet story
News Cadalyst has posted an review of CFDesign from Blue Ridge Numerics and the benefits of "upfront" CFD.
This upfront analysis has gained popularity in the areas of FEA and mold flow analysis, and now users of CFD (computational fluid dynamics) are realizing the benefits as well. One of the leading programs in this area is CFdesign from Blue Ridge Numerics, now in its seventh release.

Their conclusion:

While some understanding of fluid flow and thermal dynamics is helpful to run the software, Blue Ridge's claim that no CFD experience is necessary is accurate. I had very little prior CFD experience and was able to get though the valve analysis by following the tutorial. After that, I was able to analyze another component with no help. For those looking to cut product development time by reducing CFD iterations, CFdesign is worth a look.

New Software: FORTRAN Flowchart Generator Now Supports f90
Posted Wed December 08, 2004 @01:33PM
Print version Email story Tweet story
News OmegaChart converts a FORTRAN source code (f77 & f90, fixed or free form) to their FlowChart equivalence. The generated flowchart is then transmitted as an Excel file.

OmegaChart 2.0 is useful for untangling the behind-the-scenes programming logic in a messy spaghetti code and therefore generate visual documentation of the execution route. While other analysis tools only provide "assembly level" info such as calling trees or variables attributes, OmegaChart provides detailed "module level" logic such as loops, if-elseif-endif constructs and select-case constructs.

With OmegaChart, you can effortlessly minimize the use of GOTO's and therefore "modernize" your code.

Whether you are a programmer, a program analyst or a software maintainance personnel, OmegaChart is a "MUST HAVE" tool to ease your life. It can relieve you of hundreds or even thousands hours of headache.

Version 2.0 of OmegaChart adds support for the FORTRAN-90 language standard.

New Software: Fluent Releases Icemax 2.0
Posted Wed December 08, 2004 @12:51AM
Print version Email story Tweet story
ANSYS FLUENT Fluent Inc. has announced the release of Icemax 2.0, the second major release of its Integrated Circuit (IC) electrical modeling software package, with a range of new capabilities and enhancements. Icemax is powered by advanced geometry processing engines and the flagship FLUENT finite volume 3-D flow field solver, facilitating quick and accurate parasitic RLC extraction of complex IC package layouts.

Icemax 2.0 addresses the following general categories of significant advances, all based on suggestions and requests of current Icemax users:

  • Detailed analysis of multiport nets, particularly for multi-die system-in-package designs and internal ground/power nets
  • Mesher and solver optimization to facilitate full package extraction of high pin-count packages, including multilayer flip chip designs
  • Parametric solution capability to enable users to perform a frequency sweep and detailed design optimization
In addition, the Icemax 2.0 solver is being rolled out on a Linux platform enabling users to take advantage of cluster computing for larger designs.
