New Software: Advanced Design Technology Launches New Version of TURBOdesign-1

News Advanced Design Technology, the global leader in turbomachinery blade design methodology based on inverse design approach, has released version 2.2 of its TURBOdesign-1 Turbomachinery blade design software. The latest release of TURBOdesign1 includes a script version which can be coupled with any in-house or commercial automatic optimization codes. Coupling TURBOdesign-1, which is based on a 3D inverse design approach, with automatic optimizers can help to speed up the convergence of 3D turbomachinery aerodynamic optimization because:
  • TURBOdesign-1 can generate smooth 3D blades with as few as 8 control points
  • TURBOdesign-1 implicitly ensures designs with fixed specific work and mass flow rate.
  • In TURBOdesign-1 the design parameter is blade loading which more directly relates to the 3D pressure distribution and the flow field. This helps to accelerate the convergence of the optimization process.
  • The results of optimization are an optimum loading distribution that is general and can be used with ease in TURBOdesign-1 to design similar machines with optimum performance.

Verari Systems Launches New Octet 8-Way Opteron Server

Hardware Verari Systems™ has announced the launch of the new Octet 8-Way AMD Opteron™ processor-based SMP server. The Verari Systems Octet 8-Way’s design unleashes the full potential of AMD64 technology with Direct Connect Architecture, delivering large SMP capabilities to the x86 application base that has to date been the last stronghold of proprietary RISC architectures. The Verari Systems Octet 8-Way server supports eight AMD Opteron 800 Series processors, 64GB of memory, and eight SATA hard-drives.

The AMD Opteron 800 series processor was introduced by AMD in June 2003 for 8-way servers, but until now the processor has been used primarily in 4-way servers. The AMD Opteron processor has built-in HyperTransport™ technology that provides up to 6.4GBs of scalable bandwidth interconnect between processors, memory, I/O subsystems, as well as other chipsets.

New Software: Absoft to Provide High Performance Computing SDK for IBM Linux

News Absoft Corporation has announced it will manage, sell, and support a new High Performance Computing (HPC) Software Developers’ Kit (SDK) for IBM Linux on POWER™ clusters and servers. The new Absoft HPC SDK is expected to become the standard HPC Development Kit offered to developers for IBM Linux on POWER servers and clusters.

The new kit will include compilers, debugging solutions, message passing libraries, numerical libraries, and other software tools used by developers in the ’Build-Debug-Run-Optimize’ development cycle for high-performance computing applications. Tools included in the SDK are from IBM, Absoft, and other manufacturers and open source providers.

ANSYS CFX Join Mallett Technology on December 16, 2004 for a half-day hands-on CFD seminar. At this free seminar, you’ll learn how you can tackle CFD challenges—from pre-processing to solution to post-processing—quickly, accurately and cost-effectively.

The workshop will focus on using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) to model flow in a defined geometry. It will highlight CFD embedded within the ANSYS Workbench user interface.

Attendees will be given the opportunity to perform CFD analysis from start to finish using ANSYS CFX in the ANSYS Workbench Environment.

Fluent Inc. Announces Support For Intel’s EM64T 64-bit Processor

ANSYS FLUENT Fluent Inc., the world's leader in computational fluid dynamics (CFD) software solutions announced today its support for the Intel server platform based on the Intel® Xeon processor at 3.60 GHz with Intel® Extended Memory 64 Technology (Intel® EM64T) 64-bit processor and the Intel® 7520 chipset with PCI Express* technology, in an upcoming release of FLUENT 6.2.

The solution integrates Intel Xeon processor-based servers supporting Intel EM64T with PCI Express* technology and the InfiniBand* I/O fabric. Building on the successes of Intel’s architecture for the FLUENT user community, Intel EM64T extensions, together with several innovations in microprocessor architecture and resource ability, virtually eliminate the limitations in addressing large data set, while simultaneously and transparently supporting peak performance of 32-bit codes. FLUENT customers employing large scale clusters of compute-nodes with a high-speed interconnect benefit from support for PCI Express, which enables high-speed low-latency data transfers between nodes – a pivotal element in scalable parallel computations.
