Participants and attendees had the opportunity to get learn about a broad range of fluid flow modeling techniques and to become aware of on-going research projects carried out by top South America companies and universities. About 80 visitors attended the event during the 3 days. Dr. Brad Hutchinson from ANSYS CFX was an invited speaker and made 2 presentations - the ANSYS CFX RoadMap and a CFX Product Development Update.

Twenty-five technical presentations from customers were given and two discussion sessions (multiphase and turbomachinery) were held providing the attendees with the opportunity to exchange information about best practices. In addition, participants could attend Short-Courses on Element-based Finite Volume Method and Turbulence Modeling.

Based on feedback from attendees, this is expected to be an annual event.

Engineers at Scaled Composites have been wrestling with issues of airflow over tail control surfaces of their SpaceShipOne suborbital vehicle. A fourth high-altitude drop test of the craft on October 17 has assessed several modifications to the tail section.

Aerodynamic troubles with the tail cropped up in a previous drop test in September. SpaceShipOne encountered an unwanted nose rise, but was safely maneuvered to runway touchdown by the craft's pilot, Mike Melvill.

Putting high-tech computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis of their design aside, SpaceShipOne handlers decided to "road test" the craft's boom-tail.

The conference will be held on March 15-16, 2004 at the Novotel Hotel in Hammersmith, London. This new location enables us to invite more attendees and host more application presentations than ever before, as well as parallel sessions for workshops and training courses.
