Multiphase Flows in Industrial Applications Course and Conference
April 28th - 30th 2003
Dresden, Germany
Multiphase flows are of great interest to a large variety of industries. The power generation, food production, chemical process, and automotive industries are all driving forces in this physically and phenomenologically complex field.
A one-day course will be followed by a two-day conference.
The goal of this conference is to bring together experimental and numerical practitioners, and foster the exchange of knowledge between the two sides. Experts from both areas are called upon to present their research and application results to a receptive worldwide audience. Sponsored by CFX Germany and Forschungszentrum Rossendorf e.V.
Abstracts are currently being accepted.
The short course is designed to provide knowledge on the use of numerical and experimental methods for multiphase flows.
Participants will receive an overview of the possibilities and limits of both modern experimental methods and computational fluid dynamics (CFD). Valuable information on the applicability of CFD for daily tasks will be provided.
The lecturers are acknowledged experts in the areas outlined above.
For more information or to register visit the Conference Website.

From the Technology & Innovation Centre, Larsen & Toubro Limited, Baroda, India
Larsen & Toubro Limited (L&T) is one of the leading engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) players in the refinery and power sectors in Asia. The Technology and Innovation Centre of L&T at Baroda has been using CFX TASCflow extensively for flow and combustion applications to evaluate the reliability of in-house-designed equipment as well as critical out-sourced equipment.
The software has played an important role in understanding, designing and troubleshooting of equipment. Recently, CFX-TASCflow was used to troubleshoot a centrifugal fan used in a coal-dust environment. The fan was accumulating dust unevenly on the impeller vanes, causing severe vibration problems and leading to frequent shutdowns. On visual inspection, it was found that dust was collecting near the tip of the fan vanes, which might be due to the sticky nature of the dust and the high curvature of the vanes near the tip.
