It used to be that the user needed to wear special glasses which filtered the 2D images for the left and right eye. However, new technology allows the images to be viewed correctly without glasses on special LCD monitors.

Many 3D visualization packages support stereoscopic display and the effect can be quite dramatic.

Dell now offers the new 3Dlabs Wildcat III graphics (previous story) in its 530 Workstation.

NVIDIA has announced their Quadro 4 line of professional graphics cards based on their GeForce 4 GPU (previous story). Aimed at the professional market (as opposed to the video game market) the Quadro line adds anti-aliasing, hardware overlays, hardware XOR, and hardware clip/window ids.

Compaq has announced that it will offer NVIDIA Quadro 4 graphics on their workstations in March.

StereoGraphics will demo the latest in their stereographic displays during a tour of Boston, Philadelphia, Raleigh/Durham and Chicago starting April 30th to May 10th, 2002.

Structured grid generation is admittedly cumbersome and time consuming, however, the time spent optimizing the mesh is well rewarded.

The best structured solvers are faster, more accurate, more robust, and use less memory than the best unstructured codes. Also, because structured codes have been around for so long, they tend to have the most physical models.

Furthermore, post-processing tasks are far easier on structured grids. Topological planes within the grid are ideal locations for generating qualitative plots and calculating quantitative values such as mass flow.
