News EnSight, the leading post-processor for Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) data, has released a new version of its software, EnSight 10.1.6.

EnSight provides the largest set of features of any visualization or post-processing tool for CFD solvers on the market. This powerful software allows users to display and document information from a wide variety of data formats.

The 10.1.6 release focuses on maintaining current functionality while providing support for Virtual Reality (VR) headsets, improving performance and giving users more control over their CFD visualizations and data.

Virtual reality is quickly becoming a larger part of everyday engineering operations, as the immersive experience allows scientists and engineers to interact and understand their CFD data in profound new ways. EnSight has a long history of providing support to VR systems such as CAVEs and PowerWalls, which use walls and projectors to create an immersive experience. EnSight 10.1.6 continues to support these systems, but now also supports Oculus Rift virtual reality headsets and other virtual reality hardware.

One of the focuses of the EnSight 10.1.6 software release is improved performance for users. EnSight now calculates pathlines in parallel and allows pathlines to be computed using an environment variable. This allows users to optimize the performance of their EnSight software, especially when they already know where they want to visualize flow.

Allowing users to better understand and present their data is a central component of EnSight. In the 10.1.6 update, users are able to save images from a single viewport, even when multiple viewports are showing, increase precision while exporting to a spreadsheet, get the velocity of a massed particle trace and decide if they want to load Boundary Conditions in the CGNS XML reader. These new options will give EnSight users complete control over their data, even when transferring to other software.

These features are in addition to updates made in EnSight 10.1, released in July 2015. This major update delivered over 25 new features focused on faster performance for large models, better comparison of data, usability and improved graphics. More information about EnSight 10 can be found at

EnSight is a visualization software program designed by Computational Engineering International, Inc. (CEI, Inc.) in Apex, North Carolina. Founded in 1994, the employee-owned company has additional offices in Houston, Detroit, Germany, China, Japan and India. EnSight helps design engineers in aerospace, defense, combustion, energy production and high-tech manufacturing better understand their data in environments that require precision.
